Anglesea is the Surf Coast's family beach — patrolled, gentle-break sand, a river mouth with free BBQs, and a famous golf course where kangaroos outnumber golfers. It's the reliable summer weekend that doesn't require the extra hour's drive to Apollo Bay.

  • Patrolled main beach with consistent beginner-friendly break
  • Anglesea River estuary with riverside BBQs and kayak hire
  • Point Addis for tidal rockpools and the cliff-top walk
  • Eastern View and Memorial Arch 15 minutes down the road
  • Kangaroos grazing the Anglesea Golf Course fairways at dusk

Local tips

  • Anglesea main beach is patrolled only during summer holidays — swim between the flags
  • The golf course charges a small fee to enter non-golfers; the viewing area on Noble Street is free
  • Surf Coast Walk section from Anglesea to Aireys (7km) is spectacular
  • Summer holiday traffic eastbound is gridlocked — avoid Sunday afternoon return
