Beechworth Heritage Trail

Beechworth Heritage Trail

Ned Kelly country, Bridge Road Brewers, historic streetscapes and gold-rush caves.

High Country3h 30m from CBDBest time: Autumn

Beechworth is the best-preserved gold-rush town in Victoria — honey-coloured granite streetscapes that haven't changed since Ned Kelly stood trial here in 1880. 3.5 hours from the city buys you a country town that takes its food, beer and history seriously.

Highlights

  • Bridge Road Brewers in a converted 1850s coach house
  • Ned Kelly Vault museum — the most comprehensive Kelly collection in Australia
  • Beechworth Bakery rum balls (locally disputed but famous)
  • Woolshed Falls and the Powder Magazine walking trail
  • Murmungee Lookout at sunset over the Ovens Valley
