Hunter Valley Wine Weekend

Hunter Valley Wine Weekend

Australia's oldest wine region — Semillon, long lunches and a hot-air balloon over vines.

Hunter Valley2h 30m from CBDBest time: Autumn & spring

The Hunter is Australia's oldest wine region and still the benchmark for aged Semillon and big, savoury Shiraz. Two and a half hours north of Sydney puts you on the doorstep of 150+ cellar doors — too many to visit in a weekend, which is exactly the point.

Highlights

  • Tyrrell's, Brokenwood and Mount Pleasant — the Hunter's heritage three
  • Hot-air balloon sunrise over the valley with Beyond Ballooning
  • Hunter Valley Gardens evening light show in winter
  • Binnorie Dairy for hand-made persian feta and labneh
  • Audrey Wilkinson cellar door — the prettiest vineyard vista in the region
